Currently, Holly Hill School has approximately 50 students who regularly attend the Food Brings Hope/ Kid Zone/ Teen Zone program. They meet after school twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays, before they attend school tutoring as well. During this time after school, our FBH students are provided with full meals that can include anything from spaghetti dinners to fried chicken and vegetables to pizza. For many of our students, this after-school meal will end up serving as dinner for many of them on these days.
Sporadically throughout the program, the students will also be treated to extra special snacks during this time. In addition to being provided with meals during this time, students are also provided with time to catch up on homework and receive extra assistance from their sponsors if needed. If they’re not working on homework assignments for their classes, then students are often found participating in fun activities like dodgeball, coloring, and word games.
Our students are also able to use this time to work on giving back to their school and the community. They will participate in a sock drive, as well as making teacher appreciation gifts at school. They will also participate in a campus-wide clean up. Lastly, the students are probably most excited when it comes to field trip time! They get to attend local university basketball games, as well as several trips to the Museum of Art. Their big trip at the end of the year is to go to a nice dinner and a movie! A highlight for them so far this year was the holiday party they got to have in December! They were provided with special desserts and cider, as well as well as special gifts and gift cards that were given to our students as part of being a part of this program. ls.
