The Pierson Family Literacy Program is provided by Food Brings Hope through a partnership with Daytona State College. The program, which is held two days(Tuesday/Thursday) each week at the San Jose Mission, includes and integrates adult literacy instruction and the FBH KidsZone Program. A partnership with Daytona State College was developed and the educational component strengthened with the addition of a certified ESOL instructor. Classes are tailored to meet the needs of and the skill level of the students. Graduates of the program are able to advance to DSC’s GED program.
At this time, twenty adult students participate in classes and two students have successfully transitioned from the Pierson Program to Daytona State Deland Campus GED Program.
