The Food Brings Hope KidsZone program at R.J. Longstreet Elementary has 15 to 20 students weekly. We have a lot of students in transition.
We meet every Thursday from 2:30 to 4:00. Homework and tutoring are done first, then the students are allowed to work on Freckle, Waterford, or Success Maker (computer programs). We also teach values, manners and team building. Once a month the students are involved in a Lego/Stem Challenge to show their creative side and how to work with one another.
Also, once a month the students walk to the Shores Resort and Spa and meet with the CARE Committee. The students are involved in science experiments, educational activities, crafts, reading activities, and fun little parties.
The students pair up with HOPE Scouts two to three times a year and are involved in Community Service. The students have cleaned out the flower beds, picked up trash, washed cars and put goodie bags together for the school carnival.
