This is Enterprise Elementary’s fourth year having Food Brings Hope at our school. The activity that we provide at Enterprise is tutoring for third grade students. Third grade is a big year with FSA testing, and we thought it would be best to tutor those students to get them prepared for the test. On tutoring days each child receives a snack before we start. We give them about 15 minutes of playground time as they are eating their snack to run around before we start tutoring. We find that it is good to give our students a “Brain Break” before going straight into tutoring.
We have a total of 40 third grade students. At Enterprise we have approximately 85 third grade students total. We are servicing about half of the grade. Most of our students in Kids Zone participate in the food bags program provided by Food Brings Hope. This allows our families to go home with food every week.
We meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:45pm to 3:45pm. During the tutoring the students participate in engaging activities that align with the third-grade standards. Students interact with fiction and nonfiction text using graphic organizers and test taking strategies to boost performance in the classroom.
This year we have gone on a field trip to Altitudes Trampoline Park in Sanford, Florida. The students loved going on this trip. They were served dinner at the trampoline park and were able to bounce around and enjoy a night out for 2 hours! We look forward to doing this trip again next year. We also have “Enterprise Clean Up” approaching. This is when we have a day to go around the school and clean up and pick up any garbage around the school. The students will be served lunch, provided by Chick-fil-a. Our students have worked hard this year, all of their hard work is paying off!
Our students love being a part of KidsZone and talk to other students at school to join the program. The staff loves seeing our students walk around campus wearing their Kids Zone shirts and representing Food Brings Hope.
