My Aspirations and Dreams Get Support - Friday, December 6, 2019

My name is Melanie Rivera. I began attending the FBH Kids Zone Program with my mom and brother five years ago. Going from Kids Zone to Teen Zone was a big change for me but Food Brings Hope's KZ Program helped me to make the change.

I like FBH for the extra interest teachers show in students' talents. Any student who shows an interest in school and being a better person is given support. FBH is a place where my aspirations and dreams get support and now I have the confidence to realize them. I'm still not sure what I want to become when I graduate from high school. Today, math is my favorite subject in my school because FBH tutoring helped me improve my grades. I now turn my assignments in on time.

FBH Literacy program has inspired my mom to get her GED/Adult Education. She entered the program five years ago just to learn English. I love this program because it's very important for parents to get involved in the education of their children. We've attended FBH trips like the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University basketball game, holiday concert, and the Museum of Arts and Sciences. We also enjoyed going to One Daytona. We were also given a college tour at Daytona State College with our mom who loves to design and bake cakes.

Last year FBH gave us a Hope for the Holidays Celebration. This is another family activity that I really like. I'm looking forward to attending again this year. My wish list is Legos for my brother and clothes, boots and headphones for me.

I am grateful for Food Brings Hope's support to my family and the people of Pierson. FBH is always helping others.
